LANSING, MI — For some homeowners, the next week will be one with little sleep. The City of Lansing’s fireworks ordinance allows city residents to fire off fireworks beginning today through Sunday July 4th from 11:00 a.m. until 11:45 p.m. daily.
City residents often complain to police about fireworks being used after curfew hours and often in the middle of the night. Violations of the ordinance can carry up to a $1,000 fine per incident.
Lansing city officials preach safety when it comes to the use of fireworks. According to the city’s website: “Each July 4th, thousands of people, most often children and teens, are injured while using consumer fireworks. Despite the dangers of fireworks, few people understand the associated risks – devastating burns, other injuries, fires, and even death.”
