BANGOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One current and two former city of Bangor Police officers have filed a federal lawsuit against the city, it’s police chief and mayor citing a hostile work environment rife with sexual harassment, racial discrimination, and a culture of retaliation.
Hothman Misane, Jerol Williams and Tyrol Sleep claim in the lawsuit they were sexually harassed by Bangor Police Chief Tommy Simpson.
In a news story which aired Friday, June 11th on WWMT Newschannel 3, the three men said the chief would share stories of sexual exploits in explicit detail and make unwanted physical and verbal sexual advances. Also in the lawsuit, they say Simpson made requests that Misane watch him engage in sexual acts among other things along with making unwanted sexual comments and advances.
According to the lawsuit, Misane was fired after a sexual harassment complaint was filed. It also alleges Sleep was suspended as he prepared to file a claim of his own. Representing attorney Jon Marko said Williams left the department after “seeing the writing on the wall.”
Simpson plans to fight the allegations and the lawsuit.
