KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Kalamazoo River Alliance will be hosting its 1st Annual River Cleanup Event this Saturday, June 5.
The event will be held at Verburg Park and runs from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Officials say the goal is to remove over 50 cubic yards of trash and over 500 pounds of scrap metal from the waterway.
Food, beverages, gloves and trash bags will be provided, and volunteers will be automatically entered to win door prizes.
Boats, kayaks and magnets are welcome. Officials say that due to high volumes of sediment in the river, all walkers will utilize and clean the KRV Trail that follows the river.
“Please join us for the first annual Kalamazoo River Alliance Cleanup Event,” Kalamazoo River Alliance President Ryan Baker said in a statement. “With a little help from local community members, I know we can make some real positive and noticeable differences on the Kalamazoo.”
