DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Detroit Tigers pitcher Spencer Turnbull has been named American League co-Player of the Week after tossing a no-hitter.
Turnbull no-hit the Mariners in Seattle last Tuesday, posting the eighth no-hitter in Detroit franchise history.
He shares the honor with New York Yankees pitcher Cory Kluber who threw a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers last Wednesday.
The Tigers are shaking up the roster by sending outfielder JaCoby Jones to AAA Toledo and recalling Victor Reyes. Detroit also placed catcher Wilson Ramos on the 10-day injured list with a lumbar spine strain. He was on the I-L earlier this month with the injury but returned last week.
Relief pitcher Derek Holland was taken off the injured list and will take Ramos’ place on the roster.
