KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – A woman charged in a hit-and-run causing death last year has been sentenced, according to a report from MLive Monday.
Previously, police said Marquisha Canda, now 20, was accused of running over 46-year-old Anita McClendon back in April of last year. She had been laying down in the road before being run over in the vehicle driven by Canda, who left the scene.
It was unknown why McClendon was laying in the road to begin with. In fact, the report from MLive Monday said police had warned her to stay out of the road before she was run over.
Canda later pleaded no contest to a charge of failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in serious impairment or death, according to the report. Under that deal, she was not charged for driving a vehicle without a license causing death.
As a result, she will now face 30 days in jail, along with another 30 days of electronic tether monitoring, plus two years of probation.
