KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – – Family Health Center (FHC) of Kalamazoo is aiming to vaccinate 1,000 area residents against COVID-19 at its “A Thousand Shots of Love” drive-thru clinic planned for Tuesday, May 25.
“Protecting the health of Kalamazoo residents, especially those in our most vulnerable neighborhoods, means we must do everything possible to get people vaccinated,” FHC President and CEO Denise Crawford said in a statement. “A Thousand Shots of Love is a life-saving example of what compassionate care means for our community.”
Officials say A Thousand Shots of Love will be FHC’s biggest pandemic-related clinic yet, dwarfing previous vaccine and testing events over the past year.
FHC, Bronson Healthcare and the Kalamazoo Regional Education Services Agency (KRESA) will jointly host the clinic on May 25, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at KRESA headquarters.
The headquarters are located at 1819 E. Milham Ave. in Portage, and the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine will be administered.
For now, all residents of Kalamazoo County ages 16 and up are eligible, but officials say that group may expand to include ages 12-15 if the U.S. Food and Drug Administration gives approval before May 25.
Patients should note that they won’t have to register ahead of time. While FHC encourages registration so people can get through the clinic as quickly as possible, those who cannot register for a specific time can simply show up and get their vaccination.
To register, call the FHC COVID-19 hotline at (269) 488-0804.
“We’re eager to reach our goal of 1,000 vaccinations because that’s 1,000 more people protected against this dangerous disease,” Crawford said.
Crawford said past drive-thru clinics have gone well, delivering well over 5,000 vaccinations to date. She commended FHC staff for making the experience a positive one for patients.
