CENTREVILLE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — St. Joseph County police were dispatched to Johnson Road near Pulver Road around 11 a.m. Friday.
On scene, they found that a vehicle, a Volkswagen passenger car that had gone off the road, hit a tree, and had been split in half.
Investigators determined the vehicle was traveling southbound on Johnson Road at a high rate of speed when it entered a blind curve in the northbound lane when it swerved to avoid hitting a delivery truck partially parked in the road. The vehicle then went off the west side of the road and spun sideways before hitting a tree, which caused it to be split in half.
The driver, a 34-year-old male from Three Rivers, was flown from the scene by Aircare for treatment of serious injuries.
Police believe speed and alcohol to be factors in the crash.
