KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Michigan State Police have released the names of the two people killed in Friday’s crash on US-131 in Schoolcraft.
They are identified as 83-year-old Joel Shaffer and his wife, 84-year-old Dolores Shaffer, both of Schoolcraft.
Police say they were traveling east on W X Y Avenue when they were struck by a southbound vehicle on US-131 as they were crossing the intersection.
The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 27-year-old man from Saginaw suffered minor injuries while his passenger, a 24-year-old Flint woman suffered serious injuries. Both were transported to Bronson Hospital.
Authorities say both speed and alcohol are believed to be contributing factors.
The accident remains under investigation.
