KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – For the first time, one of the owners of Y Bar & Bistro has made a public statement regarding allegation of drink tampering, according to a report from WWMT Wednesday.
Previously, over a dozen women claimed in a viral video last month that they had been given drugged beverages while at the Y Bar, which is located near the campus of Western Michigan University (WMU).
They said that they couldn’t remember what had happened after visiting the bar one night in April. They said they tested themselves the next day and found the presence of multiple drugs.
Following this development, protests took place at the bar, with other women reporting similar experiences. Kalamazoo Police Chief Vernon Coakley later said several detectives have been assigned to investigate these allegations.
On Wednesday, WWMT reported that the co-owner, Jon Rockwood, had released a video statement regarding these allegations.
In the video, Rockwood says he is outraged by these allegations, which he deems false, and adds that the bar is cooperating with authorities in the ongoing investigation.
“I ask for your patience, and your fair judgement, as we await the outcome of the investigation,” Rockwood says in the video.
