KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Today is the May election and several items are on ballots in Southwest Michigan communities.
In Kalamazoo, a special education millage proposal is on the ballot for KRESA. A yes vote would increase the current millage by 1.5 mills for six years through 2026. Galesburg Community Schools have a bonding proposal for a $14.9 million bond that would fund an addition to the elementary school, including four new fourth-grade classrooms.
In Calhoun County, there is a pair of proposals for schools. One involves Battle Creek Public Schools to borrow $44.8 million dollars to remodel and add new school buildings. Lakeview School District wants $47 million dollars for various expansions and upgrades.
And in St. Joseph County, Constantine is proposing an ordinance that would ban the sale of marijuana for recreational purposes in the village.
Voting sites will remain open until 8:00 p.m..
