KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety is investigating a fatal hit and run crash that took place in the city’s downtown district just before midnight on Friday, April 23rd.
Police responded to the 600 block of East Michigan Avenue around 11:49 p.m. to find a crash involving a car and a motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle, a 26-year-old Kalamazoo man was found unconscious and not breathing on the scene and later died of his injuries.
Authorities say the driver and other occupants of the car fled on foot before police reached the crash site.
The east bound lanes of East Michigan Avenue at Harrison Street were closed for nearly three-and-a-half-hours and west bound traffic was re-routed to Kings Highway while police and other responders investigated.
