BATTLE CREEK, MI (WTVB) – An early Thursday morning fire at the former Southwestern Junior High School building at 390 South Washington Avenue in Battle Creek is under investigation since the building has been vacant for many years.
The Battle Creek Fire Department says the fire was reported at 2:40 a.m..
When firefighters arrived, they found the blaze in what was the band room on the second floor of the three story structure.
Crews were able to quickly bring the fire under control.
The damage was contained to the band room. There was also smoke throughout the structure.
No injuries were reported.
