KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — After allegations of drink tampering were made against Kalamazoo-based YBar & Bistro last week, a petition has been launched and a protest has been planned for Monday.
An investigation was launched last week after a viral video, posted on the app TikTok by a Western Michigan University student, claimed that herself and over a dozen women had been drugged at the bar.
According to the poster, a doctor said that the amount of drugs should have been enough to kill them.
In the days following that incident, the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety said that it had received an “outpouring” tips from the community regarding similar incidents.
A video update from Chief Vernon Coakley said that several detectives have been assigned to this case.
According to a report from MLive Monday, a petition has been launched on change.org regarding the alleged incident. Petition creator Ava Curran stated on the petition page that it is meant to “bring greater awareness to the predatory actions happening at this establishment.”
In a related matter, a protest was also planned at YBar on Monday starting at 5 p.m. According to posts on Facebook, the protest is meant to “stand in solidarity with the individuals who have been harmed there.”
There are currently no other new updates in this investigation.
In another article published Monday night by MLive, participants said that the protests would continue on each business day this week from 4 – 6 p.m.
