SPRINGFIELD, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Authorities in Calhoun County have released more details about a hostage situation earlier this month involving children at a Springfield apartment.
On Monday, April 5th, deputies rescued five children who were being held by an intoxicated man with a weapon during the early morning hours. It followed an apparent domestic incident, in which an adult female victim had escaped from the apartment on Briarcliff Lane.
She told authorities that the father of one of her children had pointed a gun at her, threatening to kill her. A deputy made contact with one of the children and was able to get them out without the suspect knowing. After a lengthy standoff and negotiations, authorities were able to get the 40-year-old to come out and surrender.
He was arrested for felonious assault and weapons charges. No injuries were reported.
