MARSHALL, MI (WKZO AM/FM ) — UPDATE: Police and Fire officials in Marshall provided a public update regarding a house explosion that took place early Monday morning.
While the explosion is still under investigation, officials say it may have been the result of a natural gas leak. Foul play is not suspected.
Officials added that the house itself is now a total loss due to this incident.
Marshall Police Chief Josh Lankerd also provided an update on the status of the victims, which are listed as follows:
- A 27-year-old female and her 2-year-old toddler were transferred to a hospital by neighbors, and are being treated.
- A 35-year-old female, a 36-year-old male and a 10-year-old male were transferred to a hospital. All have been treated and released.
- Two 38-year-old males and a 43-year-old female remain at Bronson for treatment at this time.
The investigation is continuing at this time with assistance from the Michigan State Police.

Calhoun County officials say eight people were taken to hospitals after a house exploded early Monday morning in Marshall.
Firefighters responded to the structure in the 500 block of Clinton Street at around 1:45 a.m., where the home was fully engulfed in flames. Crews helped evacuate all eight people who were inside the home at the time. The extent of their injuries is unknown at this time.
The cause of the fire, which caused extensive damage to the home, has not been determined at this time.
