KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A child daycare facility in Kalamazoo has been shut down after it was learned that the owner had overdosed on drugs at the home.
Late last week, the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs issued the suspension for Terry’s Playhouse on Crawford St.. State documents showed the owner, Ashlee Terry, had overdosed on cocaine on March 23, just before several children were scheduled to arrive. Authorities say Terry admitted to using the drug, saying she was trying to stay awake after not sleeping the night before.
A staff member had reportedly arrived at the home to find the house locked and a parent waiting with two kids. She called 911 after finding Terry unresponsive laying on the bathroom floor.
A hearing has been scheduled to determine if any further action will be taken in the matter.
