CALHOUN COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Officials in Battle Creek and Calhoun County announced Tuesday night that they will not be participating in a statewide tornado warning taking place today.
They issued the following message:
“As part of Severe Weather Awareness Week, a statewide tornado drill is scheduled for tomorrow – Wednesday, March 24 – but the city and Calhoun County will NOT participate.
Our city and county emergency managers, and county dispatch authority agree that participation could negatively impact local businesses that would respond to the drill, and we want to avoid any gathering of folks during the pandemic.
We typically do not participate in this event anyway, because we already test our emergency sirens the first Saturday of each month.

Meanwhile, both Kalamazoo and Portage will be running their drills at 1 p.m., as scheduled. More information on that can be found here.
