ALMENA TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Van Buren County authorities made an arrest Monday of a suspect accused of eluding police and getting away after a chase on Saturday.
The Sheriff’s office reports that a K-9 deputy was on patrol in Bloomingdale when a Ford pickup was observed driven by a person, a 26-year-old from Mattawan, whom the deputy knew to have multiple outstanding warrants. After an attempted traffic stop, the driver fled, driving through a village park, and a pursuit ensued. The suspect drove through several county roads in Bloomingdale and Columbia Townships. The pursuit was eventually terminated after nearly thirty minutes.
As investigations continued, deputies were able to locate the suspect at a residence in Almena Township on Monday. The suspect was in a vehicle in the driveway and after briefly attempting to escape again, but this time he was able to be apprehended.
Deputies then located a large amount of methamphetamine in his possession. A search warrant was later obtained for the residence with more narcotics and paraphernalia located on the property.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be sought at a later time.
