The City of Portage and Pfizer are continuing to prepare for a visit from President Joe Biden on Thursday. Details are being kept to a minimum about the visit, but Air Force One is expected to touch down at the Kalamazoo-Battle Creek International Airport sometime during the afternoon.
Portage Mayor Patricia Randall says there is excitement in the area ahead of the visit.
“It’s just been a really upbeat feeling in the community at large, and we couldn’t be more honored and proud.”
Randall says that she isn’t sure yet whether or not she’ll be meeting Biden in person, but says she will support him regardless.
“With COVID restrictions and security issues, I’m just not sure who will be included in the visit. But if we can’t be with physically, we will be with him morally and from afar.”
After the President arrives at the airport, he will make the short drive to Pfizer in Portage to take a look at how the COVID-19 vaccine is being manufactured.
WWMT reported on Wednesday that residents should expect road closures in the area on Wednesday when President Biden arrives. Those road closures are expected to take place between the Kalamazoo/Battle Creek International Airport and the Pfizer campus.
