PORTAGE, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Some anonymous area residents took part of their Valentine’s Day weekend to pay tribute to a missing married couple who are presumed dead.
Several bouquets of flowers have been left outside the home of Gary and Laura Johnson on Romence Rd. that has been the center of a missing persons case that evolved into a homicide investigation over the past week.
Nicholas Johnson could eventually be facing three murder charges. Two of them are related to the disappearance and death of his parents, Gary and Laura, along with a separate missing persons case from 2018 involving a teen from Gobles that police believe he could be connected to.
Two bodies were discovered in the Gourdneck Lake preserve on Friday and are in the process of being identified. One of the bodies is said to be a male, and officials said they would need further investigations to determine the gender of the other body.
Nicholas Johnson remains in custody on $100,000 bond while Portage officials continue their investigations.
