KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The city of Kalamazoo has opened a temporary warming shelter near the Mills Street homeless encampment as dangerously cold weather is forecast for the next several days.
City officials said the warming shelter would remain in operation as long as temperatures are below 5 degrees, or if the wind chill is below zero. The shelter could hold up to 60 people, but will only house 40 because of COVID-19 concerns.
There are four other warming shelters currently open in Kalamazoo as well:
- Kalamazoo Gospel Ministries
- River Church on Ransom Street
- Ministry with Community
- Integrated Services of Kalamazoo
