KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Tuesday, Kalamazoo eatery Louie’s Trophy House announced that it would be postponing its 16th annual charity gumbo cookoff.
Normally, the event would be taking place at the end of February, but staff wrote in a Facebook post that the decision is due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We want this annual event to get the full attention, planning & attendance it deserves,” staff said in the announcement.
An exact postponement date was not shared, but the restaurant stated that it would be sometime later in the year.

During the gumbo cookoff last year, local food truck Weller BBQ won the People’s Choice award after its third year competing, while Green Top Tavern took home the Judge’s Choice award.
Staff of Louie’s later said that the event raised between $8,000 and $10,000 for charity, which was later donated to recipients Cheff Therapeutic Riding Center and gLOVEmeplease.org.
