KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man was arrested Monday on several charges, including home invasion and possession of stolen property.
Around 6:13 a.m., officers with the Township of Kalamazoo Police Department (TKPD) responded to a call regarding a suspicious person trying to open unoccupied vehicles in the 500 block of Wealthy Street.
The caller was able to provide a description of the suspect and his vehicle, but he had left the area before officers arrived.
Police searched the surrounding areas and found the suspect in the 2100 block of Kenwood Avenue.
Upon contact, the suspect was identified as 25-year-old Connor Smith of Kalamazoo. Police suspected Smith was possibly under the influence and in possession of suspected stolen property.
A search of his vehicle revealed items belonging to several homes located in Kalamazoo Township and the City of Kalamazoo.
A case was submitted to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for review, and the following charges were authorized:
- Home Invasion 1st degree
- Possession with the intent to deliver imitation controlled substance
- Three counts of: Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle – less than two-hundred dollars
- Connor Smith is also on parole, and a hold was placed on him by the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Connor Smith is still lodged at the Kalamazoo County Jail for his parole violation.
“TKPD would like to thank the observant caller who reported the suspicious activity of the suspect, which ultimately led to the arrest of a person found breaking into neighborhood homes,” department officials said in a statement.
