EAST LANSING, MI — Emergency funds for Michigan State University students collected at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic are reaching their end.
Student government leaders and MSU residence halls created an emergency needs fund totaling 265-thousand-dollars to help students affected by COVID-19. The fund has already been depleted as students lost jobs due to the pandemic while still facing expenses like rent and groceries.
The groups say emergency fundraising is underway to replenish the funds. MSU could return to campus and the classroom by the middle of January 2021 if permitted to do so by state health officials.
