ALLEN PARK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The Detroit Lions have parted ways with special teams coordinator Brayden Coombs. The move was apparently made after an unauthorized and unsuccessful fake punt in the Lions loss to the Tennessee Titans Sunday.
Detroit’s special teams unit has been solid this season as Jamal Agnew is in the top ten in kickoff and punt return averages and Jack Fox is among league leaders in punting.
Special teams coach Marquise Williams is expected to take over for Coombs for the last two games of the season.
Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson, punter Jack Fox and center Frank Ragnow have been named to the NFC 2021 Pro Bowl team. Hockenson has 60 receptions with 675 yards and six touchdowns this season. Fox has a net punting average of 45.3 yards and 27 punts of 50 yards or more on the year. So far this season, Ragnow has not given up a sack and has a pass-blocking efficiency rating of 99.1 percent.
The 2021 Pro Bowl was originally scheduled to be played January 31st in Las Vegas, but was canceled due to COVID-19.
