ALLEN PARK, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Detroit Lions interim head coach Darrell Bevell said quarterback Matthew Stafford did not suffer broken ribs in Sunday’s loss to the Green Bay Packers. He said x-rays were negative and that the decision if Stafford will play against Tennessee this week will come down to pain management and his ability to perform.
Bevell also confirmed that rookie cornerback Jeff Okudah will have season-ending surgery on a groin injury. Okudah appeared in nine games this season, but has missed the last two games due to injuries.
The Lions will reportedly meet with former Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith as they continue their search for a new GM. According to the Detroit Free Press, Smith is expected to interview with the Lions before Christmas. He was an assistant coach for Denver in the late 90’s before moving into the Broncos front office and then served as general manager of the Texans from 2006-17.
Detroit began interviews for the position last week with three candidates who currently work for the Lions.
