KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The last two of eleven defendants accused in a drug trafficking operation have been convicted in federal court, according to a report from WWMT Tuesday.
That incident stems from a large bust last year, during which investigators seized cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, over a kilogram of methamphetamine, over 50 pounds of processed marijuana, over 300 marijuana plants and other controlled substances.
Additionally, investigators seized three handguns and over $50,000.
After a four-day trial that began on December 4, Ricardo Mercado-Lozano and Stacey Parcell Gibson were convicted for their role in the scheme. The organization was fronted by Battle Creek resident Andrew Bravo.
The organization distributed various drugs throughout the areas of Kalamazoo and Battle Creek between May 2017 and December 2019 when the bust occurred. Bravo later pleaded guilty and received a sentence of 264 months in prison last October.
According to WWMT, U.S. Attorney Andrew Birge said Mercado-Lozano would supply the substances to Bravo, who would later distribute them in those areas. Meanwhile, Gibson would receive drugs from Bravo for distribution in Battle Creek.
