EAST LANSING, MI — An old rule that had been waived at Michigan State University since the 1980s is back in the fall of 2021 requiring students to live on campus for two years instead of one.
University officials say that is to help students persist in their studies and graduate and made no mention of its current budget shortfalls caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
MSU has studied its students and has found those who live on campus their first two years graduate two-point-five-percent higher than one-year residents. For underserved groups, the school says that difference jumps to nearly ten-percent.
