LANSING, MI — The firearm deer hunting season begins this weekend in Michigan. The season opens Sunday on the traditional date of November 15 and runs through November 30.
Chronic Wasting Disease continues to be an issue in Michigan’s deer herd, according to the Michigan DNR. The state agency is especially interested in testing deer heads taken in southern Jackson County and western Gratiot counties for CWD.
Deer harvested in Clinton, Eaton, Gratiot, Ingham, Ionia, Jackson, Kent and Montcalm counties can be tested for CWD through the DNR from Nov. 15-18 only. Mid-Michigan deer check stations are located at 4147 Legacy Parkway in Lansing and at the Rose Lake Field Office at 8903 Stoll Road in East Lansing.
