KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — UPDATE: A number of seats are opening on the Kalamazoo County Board of Commissioners during the November 3 General Election.
In total, eight of eleven seats are up for grabs in this election.
The following numbers include data from the Kalamazoo County Election Results webpage as of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. This comes as the 21,000 absentee ballots from the city of Kalamazoo have now been tallied into the election totals. Results are not final until they are certified by the Board of Canvassers.
Beginning with District 1, Commissioner Stephanie Moore will be stepping down after the election is over. She is currently running as a write-in candidate for the position of 60th District Representative. She is running against fellow Commissioner Julie Rogers and Republican candidate Gary Mitchell.
The current numbers for the seat of 1st District County Commissioner are as follows:
- Tami Rey (Democrat) – 7,246
- Benjamin Hayden Stanley (No Party Affiliation) – 1,091
Zac Bauer was unopposed in District 2.
- Zac Bauer (Democrat) – 8,788
Current Board Chair Tracy Hall was also unopposed in District 3.
- Tracy Hall (Democrat) – 6,867
District 4 is currently held by Vice Chair Michael Seals.
- Jen Strebs (Democrat) – 8,020
- Andrew Smith (Republican) – 3,304
District 5 is currently held by Julie Rogers, who is running for 60th District Representative.
- Veronica McKissack (Democrat) – 7,170
- Valarie Cunningham (Republican) – 6,613
District 6 is currently held by Commissioner and Democrat Jennifer Aniano, with Republican Party candidate Jeff Heppler also opting for the position.
- Jennifer Aniano (Democrat) – 6,183
- Jeff Heppler (Republican) – 8,024
During a Kalamazoo County Board meeting Wednesday night, Jennifer Aniano made a statement about the race for her position.
“I’m not sad I that I got 6,000 votes in the area that I got them, so I’ll take it,” Aniano said. “I know Chief Heppler will do a great job, he loves our community, so I know he’s going to be an awesome County Commissioner again.”
District 7 is currently held by Republican Roger Tuinier, who has served the position since 2012.

District 9 is currently held by Democrat Christine Morse, who is running for the seat of Michigan House District 61 against Republican Bronwyn Haltom.

District 10 is currently held by Democrat Mike Quinn, who first served from 2009 to 2010. He was later reappointed to the board in 2017.

District 11 is currently held by Democrat Commissioner Meredith Place, who is running on the ballot for the position of Clerk & Register of Deeds.
