Toledo Rockets head coach Tod Kowalczyk announced Monday he has tested positive for COVID-19.
In a statement, Kowalczyk said that he is self-isolating after the positive test Sunday.
“I look forward to returning to coaching the team once all of our safety protocols have been met,” Kowalczyk said in the statement.
Kowalczyk told Stadium that he had a fever Saturday. He also said his players do not need to quarantine.
Associate head coach Jeff Massey will assume Kowalczyk’s duties in the interim.
The Rockets were 17-15 (8-10 Mid-American Conference) when the season was stopped in March. Toledo had won five out of its past six games, finished third in the West division and had reached the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament when the event was canceled due to the pandemic.
Kowalczyk is 184-144 in 10 seasons with Toledo and sports a 320-256 career record in 18 seasons with Toledo and Green Bay (2002-10).
