GALESBURG, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The State of Michigan’s school COVID-19 reporting page listed several new public school outbreaks as of Monday, October 5, including several in Southwest Michigan.
In Kalamazoo County, Galesburg Augusta Primary School is reporting five cumulative cases among both teachers and students. The page does not specify how many of each is infected.
Two schools are also infected in Ottawa County, according to the data. Heritage Christian School in Hudsonville reports seven cumulative cases in both teachers and students, with seven cases also being reported at Park Elementary School.
Outbreaks have also been reported in both Kent and Jackson county-area schools.
The news of these outbreaks come as a positive case was recently reported in Schoolcraft Community Schools. All students involved in that case have been quarantined, school officials said. WWMT also reported Tuesday that a student at Mattawan High School has also tested positive.
The news of these new cases comes as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) issued a new Emergency Order Tuesday, under which schools must report any new or probable cases of COVID-19 in 24 hours or less.
That order follows an additional Emergency Order issued Monday, which reinstates several emergency precautions made by Governor Whitmer that were struck down in the Michigan Supreme Court recently.
Monday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer also announced that she would file a motion of clarification with the court to determine exactly when her Executive Orders stop being in effect, and his asking from them to expire on October 30.
More on that motion can be found here.
