The latest survey of the nation’s corn and soybean crop conditions highlight the effect of weather. According to Brad Rippey at USDA corn condition was down at the end of last week by a slight amount – a one point increase in the ‘poor to very poor’ rating and a one point drop in ‘good to excellent’ shape. He says this is largely due to continuing drought in many areas of the nation’s midsection. Soybeans saw a two percent drop in the good to excellent category over the week before. He says things still compare favorably to last year. Also figuring into the condition equation is the September 10th frost from Nebraska to North Dakota and the August 10th derecho in Iowa.
