WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The United States on Tuesday backlisted two former Lebanese ministers, saying they provided material and financial help to Hezbollah in Lebanon, stepping up U.S. action against the Iran-backed Shi’ite group after the August blast in Beirut that left the country reeling.
In a statement, the U.S. Treasury Department said it imposed sanctions on former Lebanese transport minister Yusuf Finyanus and former finance minister Ali Hassan Khalil, accusing them of providing material support to Hezbollah and engaging in corruption.
