ANN ARBOR, MI (WTVB) – University of Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel has cut 21 positions from the department due to a projected budget deficit.
Manuel says he expects the shortfall will be around 100-million-dollars, about half of the normal budget, because of Covid-19. He had to make the cuts following the Big Ten’s suspension of all fall sports including football last month.
Earlier this summer, the university put a hiring freeze in effect and reduced salaries between five and ten-percent within the department.
