DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Former Detroit Red Wings defenseman Mike Green says he is planning to retire from the NHL.
Green was originally drafted by the Washington Capitals in 2004. He played for Detroit starting with the 2015-16 season until he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers in February.
Green appeared in two games with Edmonton before spraining his knee and opted out of the Stanley Cup qualifiers when the NHL resumed play earlier this month.
He has not yet officially retired and can become a restricted free agent at the end of this season.
