BENTON HARBOR, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A continuing partnership program between the Benton Harbor Department of Public Safety (BHDPS) and the Michigan State Police (MSP) has resulted in several arrests made in the area.
Benton Harbor is part of Michigan’s Secure Cities Partnership (SCP), which is an initiative developed by the MSP to address crime through a comprehensive system of “smart justice,” according to officials.
This program allows resources from the MSP to be distributed in Benton Harbor. Earlier this month, several arrests had already been made through the partnership, including a case involving an illegal gambling ring.
During the second and third week of additional resources, six handguns were seized during traffic stops in which occupants were also found in possession of fentanyl, heroin, scales, loaded magazines and counterfeit money. Several occupants were taken into custody for various warrants and charges.
Arrests were made for the following:
- One – felon in possession of a firearm
- One – possession of counterfeit money ($1250)
- One – parole violation
- Two – possession of fentanyl and/or methamphetamine
- Two – OWI
- Three – resisting or obstructing officer
- Three – violating parole or probation warrants
- Four – felony warrants, including one charged with Domestic Assault 3rd , one charged with Felony fraud, two charged with Felony assault
- Eight – misdemeanor warrants
Six troopers and one sergeant have been assigned through September 18, in addition to troopers currently assigned to the Secure Cities Partnership.
