MILTON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that a fatal traffic crash has left one dead in Milton Township.
Around 10:20 a.m. Wednesday, deputies were called to the scene on US 12 at the M 60 interchange. Investigation shows that 90-year-old Patricia McIntyre of Niles had attempted to male a left turn onto US 12, but turned into the path of an eastbound vehicle.
The second vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Cody Cummings of Benton Harbor, crashed into McIntyre’s vehicle on the driver’s side, disabling both vehicles.
After the initial crash, the vehicle Cummings was driving caught fire, but was extinguished by other drivers.
Cummings and his passengers, two children ages 5 and 7, were helped from the vehicle by the other drivers and transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for minor injuries.
McIntyre was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say all involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
This is only the latest crash to occur in Milton Township. On Monday, a driver and his passenger were injured after they were rear-ended in a hit-and-run incident by an unknown vehicle. That case remains under investigation.
In late June, a motorcyclist was killed when he collided with a van that was stopped at a stop sign, crashing into a third vehicle as a result.
