Ezekiel “Ziggy” Ansah has met with the Baltimore Ravens, and the Seattle Seahawks. He is officially done in Detroit.
Ziggy spent his first six seasons in Detroit where he sacked the quarterback 48 times. When he’s healthy he’s a disruptor, but this past season Ziggy has enjoyed the game from the best seats in the stadium; that’s the sideline for those you who’ve never heard that saying before. Knee injuries have kept him out of training camp the past two, and he injured his shoulder 19 snaps into the 2018 season. The man is injury prone.
Seattle makes the most sense. They have a history of signing former Detroit Lions. As soon as Ziggy signs his contract for, I’m guessing a one-year deal. He’ll outperform this deal and post-double-digit sacks, something he hasn’t done since 2017. If this happens, every Detroit Lions fan's face will turn Honolulu blue.
Letting go of talented but oft-injured players is a roll of the dice for franchises. The Lions could re-sign Ziggy and hope that he stays healthy and returns to his double-digit sack producing self. Or they can let him go and sign a younger guy, looking to prove himself. As a fan, I like option number two, so good luck Ziggy.
