KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — The Kalamazoo Office of the Prosecuting Attorney announced Wednesday that the preliminary examination for Zachary Solis has been postponed.
Solis is one of the three employees of Lakeside Academy charged in for their part in the restraint and eventual death of 16-year-old Cornelius Fredericks at Lakeside Academy.
On April 29th Fredericks reportedly food in the cafeteria of the facility, located off of Oakland Drive, and was restrained for about 12 minutes by several staff members. Two days later, Fredericks died of cardiac arrest and the Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner’s office ruled the cause of his death was a homicide.
Instead of beginning his preliminary exam this week, the exam for Solis will now take place on Tuesday, September 17 before Judge Anne Blatchford in the 8th District Court, Courtroom K.
It is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m.
Officials say the parties requested this adjournment to give them additional time to prepare for the examination.
Two other employees charged in this case are still on schedule for their own examinations. One will take place later this month, while the third will take place in October.
