DETROIT, MI (WTVB) – Niko Goodrum went 4-for-4 with a home run and JaCoby Jones added an inside-the-park homer as the Detroit Tigers topped the Chicago White Sox 5-1 in the opener of a three game series at Comerica Park Monday night.
Jeimer Candelario doubled and tripled as the Tigers won their fourth straight game. Daniel Norris got the win with two shutout innings of relief as Detroit improved to 9-and-5. Michael Fulmer gave up three hits while striking out two in a three inning start.
Dallas Keuchel gave up three runs in six frames to fall to 2-and-2 with the loss. Danny Mendick had three hits and Adam Engel drove in the lone run for Chicago, which has lost five-of-six to slip to 8-and-9.
Tyler Alexander gets the start tonight for Detroit and Gio Gonzalez goes to the hill for Chicago.
The Tigers have placed relief pitcher Buck Farmer on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain. Farmer has appeared in seven games this season, with a 2.84 ERA and one win in six and one third innings of work.
Detroit has called up right handed pitcher Beau Burrows from the club’s alternate training site in Toledo.
