KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Police are investigating a shooting that left one victim injured Tuesday.
Around 11:46 a.m., officers with the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety (KDPS) responded to reports of a male shot in the 700 block of North Riverview Drive.
The victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he is said to be in stable condition.
Officers are looking for an African-American male that was driving a darker Impala style vehicle at the time of the incident.
No suspect information is currently available in this case.
This is the second shooting to occur on Riverview Drive in the same day, with the first taking place just after Midnight on Tuesday morning.
During that separate incident, Public Safety officers were notified that a 24-year-old Kalamazoo resident arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound and were told that the shooting occurred in the 800 block of Riverview Drive near Bridge Street.
The victim was last listed in critical condition and there is no suspect information at this time. It is unclear if these two shootings are related.
However, both of these shootings are only the latest to occur in Kalamazoo after a string of gun-related incidents on Monday and over the weekend.
On Monday afternoon, a victim was injured after shots were fired at a red truck near the 500 block of North Rose Street.
Two teens were shot and injured in two separate incidents in Kalamazoo early Monday morning and on Saturday a suspect opened fire in the Westnedge Hill neighborhood, striking four different apartments.
Kalamazoo officials have been calling it a “gun crisis” in the city and residents have been asking for change due to the recent uptick in crime.
