UNDATED, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Tuesday, presidential candidate Joe Biden announced his running mate as Senator Kamala Harris of California.
Biden announced his decision in a Twitter post Tuesday afternoon.
“I have the great honor to announce that I’ve picked Kamala Harris — a fearless fighter for the little guy, and one of the country’s finest public servants — as my running mate,” Biden wrote.
The Senator from California had previously ran as a presidential candidate herself, having previously withdrawn from the race in late 2019, later endorsing Biden.
“America is desperate for a strong, competent, and honest leader who seizes the moment, takes responsibility, and does everything possible to solve the crises plaguing our country,” Harris wrote in a Twitter post Monday. “That’s why we must elect Joe Biden on November 3rd.”
Following the announcement, Michigan Senator Gary Peters released the following statement:
“I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Kamala Harris for years, and know firsthand her commitment to fighting for the people of this country,” Peters said. “From our work on the Senate Homeland Security Committee to keep Americans safe to fighting together to protect access to affordable health care, I know Kamala can take on any tough challenge and is ready to help lead our country. This is a historic moment and I’m proud to support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as they work to unite our country and build a more prosperous future for all Americans.”
The announcement comes as speculation had suggested Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer may be a possible pick, although Whitmer had said she was not interested in the position.
