MASON TOWNSHIP, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — One man was rescued from a burning vehicle in Mason Township, the Cass County Sheriff’s office announced Monday.
Just before 7 a.m., police were called to Redfield Street near Maple Glen Drive for a report of a vehicle crash.
Callers had told police that a pick-up had hit a tree and was on fire, and that the driver was trapped inside. Cass County Deputy Shields had arrived to the scene and found the driver.
With assistance of Ontwa Township Officer Erickson, the driver was assisted out of the vehicle via a rear window and was unhurt.
Deputy Shields and Officer Erickson then extinguished the flames. Investigation of the crash showed the driver, 57-year-old Scott Stoneburner of Elkhart, IN, was experiencing a medical issue and lost control of his pick-up.
No one was hurt in the incident. Stoneburner was wearing a seat belt and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
