ST. IGNACE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The organizers of an annual event that was a casualty of the COVID 19 outbreak is not letting the coronavirus get to them.
In a Thursday announcement, Event Marketing Enterprises, doing business as Mighty Mac Swim, said that all entry fees, totalling over six thousand dollars, from those who were to participate in the canceled August 9th race between Michigan’s two peninsulas, are being donated for pandemic relief efforts, specifically in the St. Ignace and Mackinaw City communities.
Jim Dreyer, the noted marathon swimmer from Byron Center who often trained for his exploits at the Holland Community Aquatic Center, said in a statement, “In light of the cancellation, we gave swimmers the option of receiving a refund or donating their refund back to the race to help cover our deficit and to donate any excess funds to charity. Standing behind our swimmers was our top priority, but we were also hoping to coordinate the best possible outcome in providing assistance for all involved, if possible.”
Organizers said that those who had registered for this year’s event will get 48-hour priority registration status, and those who get on the waiting list before this Sunday morning 24-hour priority registration status, before registration for the August 8, 2021 event tentatively opens to the public on October 1st.
