KALAMAZOO COUNTY, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — In a tight race between two Kalamazoo County Commissioners, Julie Rogers has beat out Stephanie Moore for the Democratic nomination for Michigan’s 60th District state House seat.
As of 1:30 a.m. Wednesday when 31 of the 36 precincts were reported, Moore had 2,196 votes while Rogers received 1,493, but numbers quickly changed as absentee ballots came in from the city of Kalamazoo and Portage. Now, with all 36 precincts reported, including all absentee ballots, Rogers stepped ahead with 7,108 votes and Moore with 6,685. There were also 35 write-in votes. These are considered unofficial results as they are not final until they are certified by the Board of Canvassers.
Rogers represents District 5 and was the former board chair. Moore represents District 1 on the county commission and also served on the Kalamazoo City Commission from 2007 to 2014.
The Republican candidate for State Representative 60th District is Gary Mitchell, who ran unopposed. He has worked as a realtor in the Kalamazoo area for the last four years.
The 60th District House seat was held by State Representative Jon Hoadley, who was term-limited.
