SOUTH HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A total of 10 persons were hospitalized from symptoms caused by carbon monoxide on a boat in Lake Michigan on Saturday afternoon.
According to South Haven Area Emergency Services, crews were dispatched to a 32-foot vessel that was apparently heading from St. Joseph when it encountered undisclosed difficulties. The captain issued a distress call after being unable to continue piloting the craft.
Marine units from SHAES and the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Department intercepted the boat about a mile from the South Haven pier and was able to take the stricken persons to Bronson-South Haven Hospital for treatment.
No names were immediately revealed as the matter remains under investigation.
