KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — A Kalamazoo man is in custody after a reported shooting and sexual assault not far from the downtown Kalamazoo area.
Public Safety officers were called to the 400 block of Oak Street near West Lovell Street around 6 a.m. Sunday where they located a man suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his leg.
First responders also found a woman that had been the victim of a sexual assault that occurred prior to the shooting by the same suspect. Both victims received medical treatment but their current conditions have not been released.
Authorities recovered 15 spent shell casings and evidence from the sexual assault at the scene and were able to collect witness statements to identify and arrest the suspect.
The 36-year-old is now facing several felony charges including criminal sexual assault and assault with intent to murder. The case is being forwarded to the Kalamazoo County Prosecutor’s Office for further review.
