CALGARY, ALBERTA (WKZO AM/FM) — The damage to the Enbridge Line 5 pipeline under the Straits of Mackinac may have occurred due to boats hired by the company.
An investigation conducted by Enbridge indicated that it appeared that a “small to medium sized vessel” dragged a cable across the dual pipeline that resulted in damage to parts of the pipeline and an anchor support.
The report has been sent to the Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy, which has not responded yet.
The controversial pipeline has been the subject of lawsuits by environmental groups and by Attorney General Dana Nessel who want it shut down immediately.
On Saturday Nessel posted on Twitter saying, “Just to be clear-Enbridge cannot even keep Line 5 safe from (wait for it)…Enbridge. Can we please stop pretending this is a company we can trust to protect the sanctity of the Great Lakes? Time to shut down Line 5. 3 close calls in 2 years is enough.”
