KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) — Each year, Common Ground Kalamazoo would be hosting an annual “Hop on Board” community garden tour, which takes residents on a guided tour of several community gardens in the Kalamazoo area.
Residents learn how these gardens are improving neighborhoods, building community, and encouraging healthy lifestyles in Kalamazoo.
However, due to the COVID-10 pandemic, the tour will instead be a self-guided endeavor this year.
A dozen gardens, many in the Vine Neighborhood, have volunteered to participate. Common Ground encourages the public to take this opportunity to see what’s growing in its community soil.
A total of 12 gardens will be on the tour and participants can start at any one point.
In addition to the tour, residents will also have the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt at each garden. Rocks painted with letters will be hidden at each garden. To play, citizens will find a rock, record the letter (but leave the rock), and collect all 12 letters. They will then unscramble and send answers to info@commongroundkalamazoo.com.
To register and obtain a map, visit the Common Ground facebook page.
The tour will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 25.
More information can be found at the Common Ground website.
